StoaHub TAB #6 - Pair/Section

Once you have completed all of the setup tasks, you are ready to run tab at your tournament.

On your main Tab page, you'll see 4 sections; Pair/Section, View/Print/Send, Record, and Results.

Down below, you'll see a snap shot of the status of all the ballots.

STEP 1.

Under "Pair/Section" click on "Pair & Section". You'll get to a screen that has all the schedule blocks for the tournament.

Click on the schedule block you wish to pair. It will bring up the event with some options. Click on "Settings" to show all the options. For Debate:

Entries to schedule - How many students/teams are in the event.

Pair - For Debate, puts the match ups together.

Assign Rooms - Assigns rooms to each section

Assign Judges - Automatically assigns judges to ballots based on which judges signed up for the round. This step should only be used when ballot push staff and tab have agreed to do this.

Prelim - Indicates that it is a preliminary round.

Elim - Indicates that it is an elimination round.

Under Settings

Strategy - For Debate, you can either choose random, or high low power match. Random is no power matching.

# of judges - How many judges per room. For prelim rounds, the typical number is 1 per debate.

Double Flight - Check this box if you want to double flight an event, like LD.

Club Protect - Check this box if you want to use club protect

Manual Pairing - If you check this box, StoaHub will assign all the rooms, but it will not pair any students. All pairing will have to be done by you manually. This could be helpful if you run into an error that can't be solved in time for your next round.

For Speech

Entries to schedule - How many students/teams are in the event.

Max Speakers Per Section - This shows the number that was entered when the event was set up.

Section - For Speech, puts the students in the rooms.

Under Settings

Strategy - For Speech, you can either choose standard, which will spread out students in the same club and also try to section students against other students they haven't seen. Random will take nothing into account and students can go anywhere.

# of judges - How many judges per room. For prelim rounds, the typical number is 3 per speech. If you choose 3 for speech, it will make 3 ballots. If they don't all get used, you can delete the third judge.

# of sections - This number is automatically calculated based on the default of max speakers per section that was entered in Events Setup.

Once you have everything to your liking, click the green "Pair/Section" on the bottom right side of the screen.

You'll then be taken back to the screen that shows all the rounds and it will indicate that you have now sectioned that round.

STEP 2. (SPEECH)

Click on "Tab".

Click on "View/Edit".

Now select the schedule block that you just paired.

Choose which event you'd like to review.

After you have chosen an event, you'll see all the sections for that event.

Initially, it does not show any student names. This is on purpose if you don't want to play favorites if you have to move someone. To show the names of the students, click "Names" under options.

There will be "WARNINGS" at the top of the section list that will point out if there are club conflicts, if a student hasn't been sectioned, etc. Make sure you look at the warnings. You'll also see one for missing judge assignments. You can ignore that as ballot push will be assigning the judges.

Each section will have the following information:

If you hover over a name, a red color indicates the same club.

A yellow color indicates that they've been in a room with that student before.

If you want to make a change to a section, or multiple sections at a time, click the box next to the word "Section" and click the green "Edit" button.

From here, you can edit the room, judge, or student. You can add a student to the room. You can add or delete a judge, although this is best left to ballot push and ballot return.

Switching Students - Let's say you want to switch "Albert Einstein" in room 121 with "Doc Dwarf" in room 136.

Next to "Albert Einstein", the "New Entry" will be Doc Dwarf". Next to "Doc Dwarf", the "New Entry" will be "Albert Einstein".

Once you click the green "Update" button, you'll see that they have switched.

Once everything looks good, you are ready to print postings and ballots.

STEP 2. (DEBATE)

Click on "Tab".

Click on "View/Edit".

Now select the schedule block that you just paired.

Next select the event.

After you have chosen an event, you'll see all the matchups for that event.

Initially, it does not show any student names. This is on purpose if you don't want to play favorites if you have to move someone. To show the names of the students, click "Names" under options.

There will be "WARNINGS" at the top of the section list that will point out if there are club conflicts, if a student hasn't been sectioned, if there is a priors met, etc. Make sure you look at the warnings.

You'll also see one for missing judge assignments. You can ignore that as ballot push will be assigning the judges.

Here is the information you'll see:

If you hover over a name, a red color indicates the same club.

A yellow color indicates that they've been hit that team before.

If you click on a team, this is what you'll see:

If clubs are hitting each other, you'll see a red "SAME CLUB" tag.

If you want to make a change to a section, or multiple sections at a time, click the "Edit" box and click the green "Edit" button at the bottom

From here, you can swap sides, change the room, change the match up, and add/delete judges (best left to ballot push and ballot return).

Switching match ups - If you want to change a match up, indicate who you want the team to be in the drop down menu. In this example, let's say we want "Gothmog Orc & Grishnakh Orc" to switch places with "Meriadoc Brandybuck & Peregrin Took."

Under their names, select the team you want to switch with and then click the green "Update" button.

You'll see they have switched places.

If you want to see the power detail report, click this icon at the top:

Once everything looks good, you are ready to print postings and ballots.

OPTIONS:

If you made a mistake with pairing or want to pair again, you'll need to delete the initial pairing. To do this, go to "Delete/Restore".

Choose the round you want to delete, click the box that says "Yes" and then click the green button that says "Delete".

If you want to bring back a deleted round, click "Restore". Once you have selected the round you want to bring back, click the green "Restore" button.
